Rodeo Austin is committed to keeping Austin green by implementing environmental-friendly solutions on the Fairgrounds and at the corporate headquarters with the help of Organics By Gosh, Austin Energy, and Allied Waste.
Since 2005, Rodeo Austin has participated in Austin Energy's GreenChoice® Program - powering the corporate headquarters with clean energy from natural sources such as wind and sun. Five years strong, this effort has prevented a total of 85 tons of Carbon Dioxide emissions from entering the atmosphere.
In 2010, Rodeo Austin teamed up with Organics By Gosh to send an estimated 120,000 pounds of livestock waste to be recycled and converted into all natural fertilizer compost. To eliminate nationwide shipping and reduce fuel and emissions, the organic compost was distributed only to Austin area businesses.
Rodeo Austin also partnered with Allied Waste to create a recycling program for all plastics, paper and aluminum disposed of by the 300,000 fairgoers during the 2010 Fair & Rodeo. Recycling efforts saved 42 trees, 927 gallons of oil, and 17,080 gallons of water.
