Want to make a difference in a GRITTY FUN way? Join our Rodeo Austin family of volunteers who began by wanting to get involved and make an impact – just like you.

Our annual registration to Volunteer opens in June. Most of our unique opportunities require a nearly year-round commitment in preparation for our events. You’ll get the opportunity to attend committee meetings, and socials to prepare for the work that the committee(s) of your choice requires.

Review our available committees, get signed up in VolunteerHub (our volunteer database), and make your annual donation to Rodeo Austin to help us grow the next generation of Texas kids! This annual support donation goes directly to the Rodeo Austin Scholarship Fund and ultimately helps Rodeo Austin grow the next generation of Texas kids.

Committees

Committee Description: The Ambassadors Committee helps promote our organization throughout the community.

Events the Committee Serves: The Committee supports Rodeo Austin by attending local parades, community events and by promoting Rodeo Austin at local stores. The Committee also manages the Information Booth during Rodeo Austin and hosts free public tours

Committee Meetings: The Committee typically has monthly meetings from October to February.

Example Duties: Cover a 3-hour shift at the Information Booth and attend a special event (local parade, community event or promotional event at local store).

Committee Description: The purpose of the Art Committee is to raise awareness and secure buyers for the top pieces in the Youth Art Show.

Events the Committee Serves: The Rodeo Austin Youth Art Auction held during the Youth Auction.

Committee Meetings: Monthly meetings are typically held October-January, with a few work days in January and February

Example Duties: Phone calls to High School Art teachers to encourage student participation in the Youth Art Show. Help organize art pieces for judging. Fundraising efforts and generating buyers to purchase qualifying Art Work.

Backstage committee

Committee Description: The Backstage Committee provides a safe, secure and relaxed environment for the main stage performer, as well as their crew, band, and family, while they are at Rodeo Austin.

Events the Committee Serves: This committee serves the Rodeo Austin Gala and Rodeo Austin.

Committee Meetings: The Backstage Committee typically meets monthly from September – February.

Example Duties: Set up and tear down of backstage hospitality home, provide hospitality to artist and crew while they are on-site at Rodeo Austin.

BBQ Austin committee

Committee Description: The BBQ Austin committee supports one of the largest competition BBQ events in Texas – a sanctioned cook-off featuring over 160 competing teams and hosting thousands of guests over a two-day weekend.

Events the Committee Serves: This committee serves the BBQ Austin event held in March to include set-up prior and take-down following.

Committee Meetings: The BBQ Austin committee typically meets twice monthly.

Example Duties: Volunteers will be expected to support the leadership in the many different sub-committees (Recruiting, Judging, Jr. Competition, BBQ Austin University, Bank, Welcome and Info and Logistics). The volunteers will be asked to work two 4-hour shifts over the course of BBQ Austin.

Calf Scramble committee

Committee Description: The Calf Scramble Committee raises funds to award 4-H/FFA students’ certificates to purchase a livestock project of their choosing and show at the next year’s event.

Events the Committee Serves: The committee administers the Ultimate Scramble Championship event during Rodeo Austin in the Wild West Tent and the Finals in the Rodeo Arena.

Committee meetings: The committee typically meets once a month September-March.

Example Duties: Gather funds from contributors, facilitate Ultimate Scramble Championship event.

Competitive Events committee

Committee Description: The Competitive Events committee supports the Junior and Open Livestock Shows and Horse Shows. This committee is subdivided into sub-committees that support each one to three-day show.

Events the Committee Serves: This committee serves the Livestock and Horse Shows held during Rodeo Austin each year.

Committee meetings: This committee typically meets two times per year with occasional subcommittee meetings. Every committeeman is requested to attend two Show Barn workdays prior to the start of the show and one tear down day.

Example Duties: Assisting with loading exhibitors into the Show Barn, prepping the arena for the day of Shows, work with college student interns to take down placings and hand out ribbons.

Cowboy Breakfast committee

Committee Description: The Cowboy Breakfast Committee is responsible for the annual Cowboy Breakfast event held in downtown Austin every March.

Events the Committee Serves: The Committee serves the two-hour Cowboy Breakfast event that is held on a Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. in downtown Austin.

Committee Meetings: The Cowboy Breakfast Committee typically meets monthly from October to February.

Example Duties: The Cowboy Breakfast Committee supports set up for the event the two days before, sets up in the morning before the event begins, helps during the two-hour event and helps with tear down after the event.

Committee Description: The purpose of the Gala Committee is to raise funds for Rodeo Austin through its annual Rodeo Austin Gala. Rodeo Austin hosts around 2,000 people each year at this black-tie event.

Events the Committee Serves: The Rodeo Austin Gala.

Committee Meetings: Monthly meetings are typically held September – January, with a few work days in January and February.

Example Duties: Fundraising/Generating table sales through the renewal of previous buyers and new lead generation, soliciting silent and live auction items and packages, pre-selling designated auction items, and assisting in the administration of event setup.

Event Staff committee

Committee Description: The purpose of the Event Staff Committee is to provide a first-rate customer service experience for Rodeo Austin guests inside the Rodeo Arena. This committee is truly the face of Rodeo Austin when it comes to hosting our ProRodeo & Concert guests. The Event Staff Committee prides itself in executing all duties in a welcoming, friendly and professional manner.

Events the Committee Serves: Rodeo Austin’s ProRodeo & Concert events held daily in the Rodeo Arena.

Committee Meetings: One full committee meeting is typically held each February and subcommittees typically meet separately a few times throughout the fall/winter, August – January.

Example Duties: Managing ticketed entrances to the rodeo arena and Founders Club, assisting guests with locating their seats, implementing the “seat warmer” program, and enforcing the Rodeo Austin Ticket Policies to the best of your ability.

Committee Description: The Hospitality Committee cooks and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner to livestock volunteers, rodeo contestants and their families, as well as others who are hard at work on the fairgrounds.

Events the Committee Serves: This committee only participates during the 15 days of Rodeo Austin unless asked to assist with other events.

Committee Meetings: This committee typically meets two times a year; once in the Fall and again in January.

Example Duties: Set up and tear down of Hospitality tent, prep food for meals, cook meals, serve meals, and cleanup of dishes and the tent in between meals.

Mutton Bustin' committee

Committee Description: The Mutton Bustin’ Committee organizes and facilitates the Mutton Bustin’ events.

Events the Committee Serves: This committee serves the Arena Mutton Bustin’ and Mutton Bustin’ Mania on Saturdays during Rodeo Austin.

Committee Meetings: The Mutton Bustin’ Committee typically meets once in January and hosts Registration Day in late January/early February.

Example Duties: Host Registration Day and facilitate both Arena Mutton Bustin’ and Mutton Bustin’ Mania.

Operations committee

Committee Description: The Operations Committee provides logistics support to all of the organization’s events held throughout the year. The committee also ensures the acts, exhibits, and attractions are welcomed during Rodeo Austin and that their needs are met during setup, showtime and tear down and ensures contracts and rules are followed.

Events the Committee Serves: All of the organization’s events, with a focus on Rodeo Austin.

Committee Meetings: Meetings are typically held every other month in the Fall and twice a month starting in January in preparation for Rodeo Austin.

Example Duties: Manual labor including assisting with building new projects, setting up/tearing down at all events.

Operations committee
Operations committee

Committee Description: The Rodeo Committee assists with the setup and execution of the ProRodeo performance. They help provide a fair and safe event for contestants and world-class entertainment for fans.

Events the Committee Serves: The committee serves the rodeo nightly during Rodeo Austin.

Committee Meetings: The Rodeo Committee typically meets once in February.

Example Duties: Set up for the ProRodeo Performance in the Rodeo Arena.

Operations committee
School Tours committee

Committee Description: The School Tours Committee facilitates the School Tours Program and the Rodeo Rumble held during Rodeo Austin each year.

Events the Committee Serves: This committee serves during Rodeo Austin each year.

Committee meetings: The committee typically meets 2 to 3 times a year.

Example Duties: Registration table management, assistance with arena crowd control, directing kids to and from the race area, checking in and leading school groups, maintaining traffic flow, and organizing lunches in Rodeo Arena.

School Tours committee
Shootout committee

Committee Description: The Shoot Out committee supports peer to peer fundraising for the Sporting Clay Tournament. If you love raising money and shooting guns, this is the committee for you.

Events the Committee Serves: This committee serves the one-day Shoot Out event held in early October.

Committee Meetings: Meetings are typically held twice a month starting in July.

Example Duties: The committee is responsible for securing sponsorships, selling teams and day of event support.

Shootout committee

Committee Description: The Souvenir Committee sells Rodeo Austin official merchandise at all Rodeo Austin events.

Events the Committee Serves: This committee serves Rodeo Austin, the Shoot Out Sporting Clay Tournament, BBQ Auction & Dance, Rodeo Austin Gala, Cowboy Breakfast, BBQ Austin.

Committee Meetings: The Souvenir Committee typically meets 3-4 times per year in September, December and February. There are set up days before BBQ Austin and Rodeo Austin.

Example Duties: Booth set up and tear down, 3-4 hour shifts at Rodeo Austin events to sell official merchandise.

Xtreme Seats committee

Committee Description: The purpose of the Xtreme Seats Committee is to ensure Rodeo Austin’s ProRodeo & Concert Xtreme Seat ticket buyers have an enjoyable and safe experience during the ProRodeo & Concert performance. Committee members serve as hosts to some of our ProRodeo & Concert premium ticket buyers, requiring a friendly and professional approach.

Events the Committee Serves: Rodeo Austin’s ProRodeo & Concert events held daily in the Rodeo Arena.

Committee Meetings: One full committee meeting is typically held each February.

Example Duties: Welcoming Xtreme Seat guests to their seats, providing an overview of the check-in procedures and rules of conduct, and distributing appropriate floor credentials, assist in relocating Xtreme Seat guests to the arena floor for the concert performance and staffing designated posts around the arena floor.

Xtreme Seats committee

Committee Description: The Youth Auction Committee supports Texas youth projects and the Rodeo Austin Scholarship Fund by fundraising, organizing and administering Youth Auction events.

Events the Committee Serves: This committee serves the Youth Auction Event held during Rodeo Austin every year.

Committee meetings: Typically there are two full committee meetings a year and three to five leadership committee meetings.

Example Duties: Fundraising, logistical planning for day of event, and facilitating the Youth Auction event.

100X committee

Committee Description: The 100X Dance Hall Committee provides a true dance hall experience for the public, ProRodeo Athletes and Volunteers by providing live streaming of the rodeo every evening and live music nightly.

Events the Committee Serves: This committee only participates during the 15 days of Rodeo Austin unless asked to assist with other events.

Committee Meetings: This committee typically meets four times a year in October, December, January and February.

Example Duties: Set up and tear down of 100X tent, wristband guests upon entry and hospitality to the guests.
