The Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo hosts several equine competitions, including an American Quarter Horse Association Show, Ranch Sorting Competition, a Collegiate Stock Horse of Texas Competition, All-Breeds Open Horse Show and the Gold Stirrup Horse Show.

AQHA Show

Quarter Horses from Texas and beyond can compete in Western and English styles of riding in the Double Judge /Double Pointed Amateur and Youth AQHA shows. AQHA Amateur, Amateur Select, Novice Amateur, Youth 13 & Under, Youth 14-18 and Novice-Youth members are encouraged to come take part in competing for $6,000 in All-Around Premiums!

Collegiate SHOT Show

College students participating on university approved Stock Horse of Texas (SHOT) teams compete against each other in Trail, Western Pleasure, Reining and Working Cowhorse. Teams consist of four exhibitors each. Competition is open to any college or university.

Gold Stirrup Horse Show

2009 was the first year STFR hosted this invitational event for individuals with special needs. Therapeutic riding, or "hippotherapy," is an important tool in both rehabilitation and recreation for individuals with a variety of disabilities. Riding therapy can help to strengthen muscles, improve balance, improve concentration and build self-confidence. Riders will be competing in showmanship at halter, English equitation, western equitation, barrels and trail.

RSNC Sanctioned Ranch Sorting

Ranch Sorting is a timed event class consisting of two riders with the objective of sorting ten head of cattle from one pen into another in a designated sequence. The team that sorts all ten head of cattle in the correct order with the fastest time will be declared the winner.

All-Breeds Open Horse Show

Rodeo Austin welcomes an All-Breed Open Horse show for the first time on March 13, 2010. Classes will range from English to Western events, with three age divisions offered: 13 & Under, 14-18, and 19 & Over. Rodeo Austin looks forward to awarding $1,500 in High Point Premiums.

Entries are still being accepted. Anyone interested in participating in the AQHA Show may sign up the day of the show. To enter the RSNC Sanctioned Ranch Sorting or the All-Breeds Open Horse Show please call (512) 919-3000.
